In January, 1994 the Zeeland Community Band was started with only 15 members. The band has tripled in size since then with members coming to play from many West Michigan communities. The band also includes several parent/ child members, which makes the band a true community group.
The Zeeland Community Band plays many kinds of music, including marches, musicals, movie music, classic band music, jazz popular, and seasonal. Members range from the very inexperienced to several members with music degrees. There is no fee to join the band, and no audition; however, it's recommended that members be able to play at a High School level or above.
During the 1995-1996 school year the Zeeland Community Band performed at the Zeeland Pumpkin Festival, the Hudsonville Christmas Parade, a community Christmas Concert, retirement and nursing homes, the Zeeland Chili Supper, an Adult Band Festival, and the Grand Rapids Art Festival.
This non-profit organization is supported totally from individuals and local businesses, along with grants from supportive community organizations. The Zeeland Community Band is supported by the school district by the use of the school facility for rehearsals.
We also receive contributed funds from outside sources. This year, the Zeeland Foundation supported the band with a generous $500.00 grant to start our music library. We would also like to thank the Zeeland/ Holland Community foundation for their grant of $1,000 to our music library! It is much appreciated.
